The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description
This commercial item description covers spiral wound or convolutedly wound, commercially available tubes used in mailing, filing, and map storage.
1. CLASSIFICATION
Class 1: Spiral wound tubes.
Class 2: Convolutely wound tubes.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Tubes shall either be class 1, spiral wound, or class 2, convolutedly wound. Plies of class 1 tubes shall be wound with butt joints, with a maximum gap of 1.59 millimeters (1/16 inch).
2.2 Seams of class 2 tubes shall be tapered or beveled to form a smooth seam.
2.3 Crushing strength of both class 1 and class 2 tubes shall not be less than 1.43 kilograms per centimeter (8 pounds per inch) of the tube length, as indicated by T-108 Test of the Composite Can and Tube Institute.
